An update on my life

Ok, time for a proper post, methinks. I have been way too slack with this thing... especially since I really enjoy reading other people's blogs. Quietly stalking away... hehehe. So it's only fair :)

So?... What's been happening in my life, then? Well, I left my job as an environmental consultant in February. It was one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make. But it turned out to be one of the best decisions I've ever made! I do not regret leaving that job for a moment. I guess why I left the job can be summed up in that I was fast becoming someone who I didn't want to be. I was becoming work-obsessed, more irritable, very stressed, less patient, less forgiving and tired often... While I was becoming a better consultant, I was getting worse and worse at being a good wife, daughter and friend. My Christian faith was suffering immensely and there were many weeks that I didn't go to church. I didn't want to be some career-driven and money-hungry person, where my work defined who I was. So I quit.

Last year was a tough one for me, but God got me through it. Only he could have, because I know I certainly couldn't have made and executed such a big decision on my own.

Now I'm in a bit of a limbo-land... Not sure what to do next with my life. That is, post-Europe. At the moment I'm planning for the big trip, teaching scripture and learning French again.. and I'm loving all these things! I'm very grateful that I'm able to take a break from work to do these things. Next year is a big uncertainty for me. Was thinking of doing teaching, probably primary school. But I'm not sure. Maybe environmental education? I'm getting a bit impatient with God, I wish he would give me a clear answer!!

We miss you Grace!

Hope you had a safe trip home and had a good overnight stay in Japan. I'm sure it was wonderful to see your parents again... say "hello" to them from us! There was a meeting at church last night with all the young adults to talk, think and pray about this years Bible Study groups (and church in general). We missed you!! Especially not having you in our car going home :(

We're praying for you Grace!! Praying that you will settle back home in Korea easily. Lots of love from us,

Alex and Alan xoxo

Tea Gardens

We went up to Tea Gardens to visit Alex's parents for a few days between Christmas and NYE. Its a really beautiful spot, this is the view from their balcony. There are often pelicans on those stumps, and Alex's parents are thinking of getting a canoe to paddle around.

In the background is the Yacaaba Headland which sticks out from the beach. It took us 3 hours but we walked right to the summit. But we forgot the camera!

Work

Work was really good! (Thanks Alicia for asking in 'comments'). The people who work there are nice and friendly and I got to meet most of them today because it's a small place (didn't see Rob though, Alicia). Although OH & S training is boring... Had to sit through 4 videos. Got a whole day of it (the green card) on Wed. Learning about safety on construction sites. But I don't have any construction-site experience so it'll be kinda informative.

It will take me a while to get used to 8.5 hour days I think. Will be pretty tired for a while. But, yay, got through the first day!! Hope work wasn't too painful for you Pun. Old people aren't so bad.

Happy New Year!

Alan's off to work again this morning... so that is why I'm up early posting on this blog. Hope you all had great new years celebrations! We were going to go into the city to see the fireworks, but were then put off by the imminent rain... but then it never came!! We also figured that it would be too much of a battle to get home on the train. However, we did see local fireworks from someone's backyard a few houses up, which was pretty cool! They would have let off about 20 of them, and they were big and pretty! We could also see the fireworks from the city that went up high enough (the big chandelier looking ones) from our balcony.

I'm starting work next Monday (same as Pun and others), so that's exciting but also scary!! Never been in a proper job before, only worked in an ice-creamery and patisserie... Any tips any one who's had a taste of professional work??

Anyway, my stomach is starting to rumble so I might go and get some brekky. :)
